Celebrate the much-anticipated opening of our inaugural exhibition, David Aschkenas: Flora & Fauna, with refreshments and live music by the Billy Price Band

David Aschkenas has spent the past 50 years photographing the city of Pittsburgh and the world it exists within. For David, all this time manifests itself in a level of photographic mastery very few can achieve. Half a century of experience culminates in his latest exhibition, Flora & Fauna. This collection features some of the most sensational work David has released to date - in both its subject matter and in the way he has captured it.

Guests will get a first-ever look of this captivating series at this event. To ring in the celebration, there will be a special performance by the BILLY PRICE BAND, winner of the 2016 Blue Music Award for best soul blues album.

David Aschkenas has been making photographs for 50 years. While self taught, he has been the recipient of grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Polaroid Corporation, and the Fine Foundation. During his first year with a camera, he won second prize in the Nikon International photo contest. David’s pictures have been exhibited in more than 50 shows worldwide.

His work has been represented in a host of top-class institutions, including the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Minneapolis Institute of Art, Polaroid Corporation, and Howard Heinz Endowment. He has produced over 40 books of photography covering a wide range of settings, including Judaica in European Synagogues, Eastern Europe, the Allegheny Observatory, the Civic Arena, the Allegheny County Courthouse, and many more locales. Editorially, his work has appeared in Time, Men’s Health, Good Housekeeping, Pittsburgh Magazine, Pittsburgh Quarterly, Stern, More, Marie Claire, PC World, Der Spiegel, and many others.


Billy Price is an American blues and soul singer. Billy Price first attracted national attention during his three-year association with guitarist Roy Buchanan. Price is the vocalist on two of Buchanan's LPs, That's What I'm Here For and Live Stock. Since then, with the Keystone Rhythm Band, the Billy Price Band, and solo projects, Billy Price has recorded and released a total of 20 albums, CDs, and DVDs. In 2016, he was the recipient of a Pittsburgh Rock 'n Roll Legend Award.

Price’s album This Time for Real, with the late Chicago soul singer Otis Clay, received a 2016 Blues Music Award for Best Soul Blues Album. He received BMA nominations in 2019 (Reckoning) and 2020 (Dog Eat Dog) for Soul Blues Album, and in 2020, 2022, 2023, and 2024 for Best Male Soul Blues Artist. He has also been nominated in 2024 for a BMA for Instrumentalist - Vocals.

The Billy Price Band, based in Billy’s hometown of Pittsburgh, PA., consists of Dave Dodd (drums), Tom Valentine (bass), Lenny Smith (guitar), Jim Britton (keyboards), Eric Spaulding (sax), and Joe Herndon (trumpet). They won the Pittsburgh City Paper Reader’s Poll in 2021 and 2022 for Best Blues Band or Performer.
